IW BOOSTER CLUB MINUTES – January 14, 2015 Meeting
Members present included Anne Carney, Mike Carney, Matt Clark, Melody Clark, Stacy Connor, Mr. Dukes, Coach Barkley, Coach Arie, Coach Rhodes and Coach Wazilewski.
MINUTES: November 2014 minutes were reviewed. Matt moved to approve the minutes; Melody seconded, all in favor – motion carried.
TREASURER’S REPORT: Matt presented the treasurer’s report for months November and December as well as a year-to-date report. Mike moved to approve, Stacy seconded, all in favor – motion carried.
WEIGHT ROOM: Mr. Dukes presented that, at this time, the best option for a weight room is redoing the old gym floor to make it the new weight room/shooting range. Mr. Miller, rifle club coach, is in support of this plan. Work on the stage area, where cardio equipment will go, will be another phase of the project. Students will continue eating lunch in the old gym which needs to be considered as changes are made. Approximately ninety students used the weight room over the summer last year. Anne or Matt will attend the board meeting. Boosters will need the quote for the architect as that is the first expense that will need to be approved. All coaches who were present voiced support for the weight room project.
SCOREBOARD: A question was asked about the football scoreboard. The project is on target so that a new scoreboard will be in place for football season.
“BRICKS” FUNDRAISER: Boosters discussed plans to proceed with the “bricks” fundraiser. The size of the area will need to be measured first. Board approval will be needed. There have been inquiries about donating additional tables, but no additional tables have been determined for certain.
COACHES APPRECIATION DINNER: Anne gave a list of suggested dates. March 21 was the first choice. Anne will check with Shagbark.
We no longer have a supplier for hot dogs. Matt will check with Best Supermarket to see if they can order them. Coach Arie will check with her brother who owns a restaurant.
Lavicka’s will work on the sunken gardens in April. Weather conditions were too wet this fall and then it froze. Coach Waz requested watering and care instructions from Lavicka’s.
Mike will check with Jim Price to verify the middle school track timer was purchased.
Mr. Ehmen sent a message that the middle school banner project is not complete yet.
Ad sales will be coming soon. We need a booster volunteer to work with the team. (The team assigned for 2015 is golf.)
The IW Booster golf outing at Shagbark will be July 25. Matt will chair the event again, but requested someone work with him since he will not be doing it the following year. (It was noted that no formal action has been taken to add the golf outing as an annual event; will be added to February agenda?)
Important upcoming dates: HS Girls BB Senior night – Feb 5; HS Boys BB Senior night – Feb 14; Winter sports banquet – March 9.
The “young captains” idea was asked about. Boosters believe it’s a good idea, but there was not enough time to organize this year. The idea will be tried next year.
Boosters asked Mr. Dukes if a sign could be placed in the gym to designate the “Visitors” area.
Coach Rhodes asked to be placed on next month’s agenda to request the booster club consider making a donation of around $1,200 to fund JV baseball games. Currently players are getting to play, however there are thirty players out for baseball this year. Some area schools have JV and others do not. Coach Rhodes also asked for $500 for the middle school baseball team and hitting mats for $300. He told the booster club that he is asking for help with these expenses. He is trying to invest in items that will help with training. This item will be on next month’s agenda.
Matt moved to adjourn.
Next Meeting: February 11, 2015 at IWHS at 7:00 pm
